At McMaster University, we understand the challenges people face when trying to manage the demands of work and personal life. McMaster supports employees by offering a series of programs through:

  • Wellness Weekly E-Newsletter– a free, one page electronic newsletter produced year round by the Healthy Workplace team. To subscribe, please email
  • Celebrity Concert Series – Bring your lunch, relax and enjoy a free 50 minutes of beautiful music, from classical, jazz and world music. Attending one of these concerts will make the rest of your day a joy!
  • Monthly Event Listings – participate in learning initiatives designed to promote your health and safety ( 
  • Fun Fit – take a fitness class at lunch offered by employees for employees. For details contact
  • Walk, stroll, run – participate in seasonal walking groups. Check out Walking at McMaster.
  • Be ErgoSmart – McMaster is dedicated to proactively working towards a healthy workplace including offering ergonomic solutions for employees. In support of this program, general attendance ergonomic training courses are offered on a monthly basis. Individual workstation / practice assessments are also available to individual employees upon request.

David Braley Athletic Center– a world class sports facility offering the Pulse Fitness Centre, gymnasium, cardio gallery, cycling studio, indoor track, indoor rock climbing wall, international sized squash courts, High Performance Training Area, Hall of Fame, and Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre.

Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety

Training and Development- attend in-class training sessions or the new online training portal on various health and safety related topics.

Human Rights and Equity Services (HRES) strives to make McMaster a university community where all students, staff, and faculty can learn, work and live in equality and respect. To this end, HRES actively promotes an environment free from harassment and discrimination.

The University Ombuds Office works to ensure that all students, staff, and faculty are treated in a fair and equitable manner within the institution. The Ombuds do not advocate for a particular side in a dispute; but rather attempt to reach a fair and just resolution to a conflict.
